What is: Late Start?

“We want consistent, intentional, professionally led, team-oriented, growth-focused, longitudinal, and measurable professional development for our teachers—and we want it each week—every week—for an hour in the morning—with 100 percent of teaching staff present every time.”

Why does Delmarva Christian Schools (DCS) have late start?
To ensure our teachers receive consistent, high-quality professional development without impacting your schedule or finances, we've implemented a late-start Thursday program. This initiative is crucial for our mission to provide excellent Christian education.

How does it affect the school schedule?
Every Thursday, classes start an hour later. So, for our Kindergarten to Eighth grade, class would start at 9:00 am and for the high school we start at 9:30 am. If you cannot adjust your schedule to fit the one hour delay, you can still drop your child off at the regular time, and they will participate in supervised activities, free of charge.

What will my child do during this time?
Depending on their grade level and program, there are a variety of activities. For elementary and middle school students, they have the opportunity to study and prepare for the day or spend time in the gym engaging in monitored free play.

For high school students interested in taking a course this time is referred to as "Zero Block," when it comes to giving credit for courses we meet State of Delaware guidelines for instructional hours, standards, objectives, curriculum, etc. For students who are musically inclined they can take part in Royals Worship for course credit, which practices during this window or partake in the the leadership course, The Aspire 78:72 Experience

The Late Start program has been highly successful for the training of our educators and benefits our entire school community by enhancing the quality of education.
