J-Term 2025 On-Campus Course Offerings
Dates: Monday, January 6 - Friday, January 17, 2025 

Cooking for Service
   Instructors: Mr. & Mrs. Ciattei  
   Description: In this course, students will join Mr. & Mrs. Ciattei to learn some of the basics and art of cooking. They will plan, prepare, cook, assemble, clean up, and deliver 5 or 6 meals (as casseroles) to a few of the local communities in need.  

Competing Biblically  
   Instructors: Coach McGinnis, Seth Daisey, Trevor Daisey  
   Description: Are you a true competitor who pushes yourself to excel and become the best athlete you can be? Do you want to learn how to raise the bar as an athlete and improve your overall performance? Our "Competing Biblically" course is designed for those who want to take their competitive spirit to the next level—by aligning it with God’s purpose for their lives. This course will help you see your athletic journey as a powerful tool for spiritual growth, infusing your athletic experience with deeper purpose and meaning. Learn how to Compete Biblically. God’s Way. God’s Power. God’s Glory. Students will participate in competitive games daily as well as classroom Bible lessons. Students will meet and work with College Athletes as well as take a trip to see a collegiate basketball game.  

Career Exploration: Life in Ministry  
   Instructor: Mr. Mitchell  
   Description: Students will explore different career options in ministry, including Pastoral Ministry, Church Planting, Foreign Missions, and more. This is an opportunity for students to consider if vocational ministry is an interest and calling on their life.  

Makeup & Skin Care  
   Instructor: Mrs. Matthews  
   Description: This hands-on J-Term experience offers students an introduction to the world of makeup artistry and skincare. Through practical demonstrations and interactive workshops, participants will explore essential skincare routines, product selection, and makeup techniques that enhance natural beauty. From understanding skin types and tackling common skin concerns to mastering the basics of makeup application, students will gain confidence in caring for their skin and creating personalized beauty looks. Guest professionals will share insights into trends, products, and industry tips. Ideal for anyone looking to expand their beauty knowledge!  

History and Nature-Delmarva and Beyond  
   Instructor: Mr. Gonzalez  
   Description: In this course, students will take daily field trips that will explore Delmarva historical sites such as the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad tour, museums, antique stores, state parks, and even two separate day trips beyond to Northern Delaware and Washington, DC (History of the Bible Museum, Smithsonian Museums). There will be a history movie day where we stay on campus.  

Intro to Filmmaking  

   Instructor: Mr. Kline  
   Description: Join us for a 10-day crash course in filmmaking! You'll learn the essentials of story structure, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing—everything you need to bring your ideas to life on screen. Perfect for beginners or those looking to sharpen their skills, this course covers the key steps of filmmaking, from concept to final cut. Get hands-on experience and start creating your own films!  

Robotics
 
   Instructor: Mr. Chappell  
   Description: Objective: Examine and demonstrate various areas of electronics in the scope of robotics and automated systems.  

Child Evangelism Fellowship - 5 Day Clubs  
   Instructor: Mrs. Desiderio  
   Description: Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) is a Bible-centered organization that brings the gospel to children all over the world. We will train with a CEF missionary the first week of J-term. The second week, we will run a 5-day club in a local elementary school.  

Games in the Gym  
   Instructor: Mr. Schnell  
   Description: Students will have the opportunity to compete in indoor soccer, basketball, and other games to promote exercise and fellowship. There will also be a daily devotion.  

Supporting Local Treasures  
   Instructor: Mrs. Knupp  
   Description: In this J-Term adventure, we’ll dive into the unique stories and hardworking entrepreneurs behind the shops, cafés, and services that shape our community. You’ll explore local gems, meet the people who keep them running, and find out how we can give back by supporting them. From hands-on activities to tasty samples, this experience will open your eyes to the incredible talent and passion right in our backyard. Let’s come together to celebrate and support the businesses that make Delaware shine!  

Heart of Delaware: God, College, and Career  
   Instructor: Ms. Napoli  
   Description: During high school, students begin a mindshift into preparing for life after high school. For many, this includes college applications, determining majors, future full-time jobs, etc. In this course, we will discuss how, as a student, you can begin to prepare and organize for your future. College and career skills will be learned and discussed. We will continually come back to how ultimately God is the author of this process for you, and how you can ensure you are keeping Him at the center.  

Creative Writing - Short Stories  
   Instructor: Tanya Schuler (Delaware Division of the Arts Author TJ Lewes)  
   Description: Students create their own short story in a workshop format by exploring the creative process from prewriting to publication. Topics include brainstorming, organization, character development, setting, dialoguing, literary devices, giving and receiving feedback, final editing, and publication options. Both free writing and prompted writing will be explored.  

Habits of Purpose for an Age of Distraction  
   Instructor: Ms. Houston  
   Description: Do you ever wonder what personal development looks like within a Christian worldview? Do you find yourself looking for meaningful rest, fellowship with others, and connection with God? This will be a discussion-based course using the book The Common Rule: Habits of Purpose for an Age of Distraction by Justin Whitmel Earley. No reading will be required outside of class. We will be reading, discussing, journaling, and doing activities such as making and sharing a meal together. Topics for discussion will include prayer, Scripture reading, social media, hospitality, and friendship. We will leave this course with practical habits of life that are integrated with our beliefs.  

 Book Nook: Reading Alone Together  
   Instructor: Stacy Hennigan  
   Description: This course is for students who love to read and feel like they never have enough time to read for pleasure. Join us as we explore the Delaware Library system, obtain library cards for the Delaware Libraries, and hang out quietly together with a good book and a warm beverage.
